Bags are packed, currency, passports, tickets checked, I am ready. I will be at the airport for 6.45 pm Sat to soak up the atmosphere & have a couple of G & T's before boarding my Quantas Jumbo. Next stop New Zealand......

Another cold snap in NZ
MetService is warning of a particularly cold southerly snap moving onto the country.
It is expected to travel over Southland and Otago this afternoon, reaching Canterbury and Marlborough this evening and Cook Strait around midnight.
Forecasters are predicting snow showers below 300-400 metres in many southern and eastern areas later today.

I cant believe this, it's getting beyond a joke now, we were told to expect temps in the region of 20 - 24 degrees C and with 3 x days before departure it looks like Finland or something !
Jen...If your reading this you had better get your witchery to work on the weather otherwise we are going to be in for a difficult time. It's not the cold I'm bothered about but the possibility of ice on untreated roads that could prove disastrous !

Four days until we depart
Hi Everyone...With just four days to go we are all excited and cant wait to get going. Paul & Arlene V are off tomorrow as they are planning a few days stopover in Hawaii before arriving in Auckland.
We set off on Saturday. The 30 hours of traveling will be a drag but I just keep thinking of what will be at the end of it, a rainbow & its pot of gold in the shape of New Zealand, it will be treasure to behold. We will have a short time before collecting the bikes so we are hoping the jet lag is not too hard to deal with?

09/10/09 Tsunami Warning for NZ
A tsunami watch was issued for the whole country this morning, but then changed to the west coast from North Cape to Hokitika, and from the North Cape to Auckland on the east coast.
A tsunami warning had been put in place and most residents had headed to high ground.
"The events in Samoa have taken the complacency out of people here," Mr Coleman said.
Port Vila shut down as workers fled and hotels cleared tourists off the beaches.
"Shops and offices in the city have been closed and workers have run to higher ground in case of a tsunami," said Arjun Channa, general manager of the luxury Le Meridien resort in Port Vila.
"At the hotel, all guests have been cleared off the beaches and we are contacting all cruises to stop those and get the passengers to safer areas, just in case," he told AFP.
"We have evacuated everyone to higher ground - well above sealevel - and are preventing anyone from going into town," he said, before the Honolulu-based Pacific Tsunami Warning Center cancelled the warning.

1 x month and counting
We have less than a month before we set off to New Zealand. All concerned are buying their last few essentials, these have included new boots, waterproofs and wind stoppers but if any of you have seen or read a weather report for the North Island you may be suprised to see the massive snow storms that have laid waste the roads, cutting off the main state highway and causing the army to be draughted in to rescue stranded motorists ! .....Anyone wanna swop with me ? the Carribean is looking better all the time LOL.
I hope the spring will spring, it has 4 x weeks to get there before we do ! Snow-stuck motorists face second night in shelters http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10601437&ref=emailfriend
